Inside ODM’s Crucial October 27 Meeting, Raila Junior’s Role Not Political & Ruto Defends Timing of Cybercrimes Law

Inside ODM’s Crucial October 27 Meeting, Raila Junior’s Role Not Political & Ruto Defends Timing of Cybercrimes Law
The death of ODM leader Raila Odinga has thrown President William Ruto’s political calculations into disarray, forcing him to rethink his game plan ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Raila’s passing disrupted plans for a formal coalition between ODM and the ruling side, compelling the President to revisit the memorandum of understanding he had with Odinga’s party.

Sources indicate that Dr Ruto is keen to convince ODM leaders to cement their working alliance to safeguard his political future.

Among the options under consideration is collapsing the ruling UDA Party into ODM to form a single powerhouse. Another possibility is dissolving both parties to create a new entity under his leadership and presidential ticket.

The President is also weighing moves to sideline ODM dissenters and replace them with loyalists, particularly in Luo Nyanza, while strengthening his influence through regional parties in Odinga’s former bastions.

In other news, President William Ruto is set to reshuffle his Cabinet to create space for Kanu chairman Gideon Moi, marking a major realignment in the government’s power structure.

Sources say the move has gained urgency following the death of ODM leader Raila Odinga, whose partnership with Dr Ruto last year helped steady the administration amid Gen Z protests.

Odinga’s passing has left a political vacuum, prompting the President to recalibrate his unity agenda ahead of the 2027 polls.

Kanu Secretary-General George Wainaina confirmed the ongoing cooperation, terming it a unity pact rather than a deal based on political rewards.

The arrangement will reportedly see Moi’s allies land key government positions in exchange for his withdrawal from the Baringo senatorial race.

The two leaders once fierce rivals have held several meetings in Nairobi and Dubai, cementing a partnership initially brokered by Odinga. Kanu’s return to the centre of power marks its most significant comeback in years.
