“I Don’t Know What Sifuna Gave These Senators?” Robert Alai Raises Alarm After Olekina’s Bold ODM Stand

Narok Senator Ledama Olekina has reaffirmed his unwavering loyalty to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) amid rising internal tensions over the party’s future direction. 

His declaration comes at a critical time when the party is grappling with sharp divisions ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Olekina’s statement drew a reaction from digital strategist Robert Alai, who questioned what he termed as inconsistent positions taken by some ODM senators. 

In a pointed remark, Alai wondered aloud what Secretary General Edwin Sifuna may have told or offered certain lawmakers, suggesting possible behind-the-scenes influence shaping their public stances. His comments have further fueled speculation about deepening cracks within the party.

At the heart of the disagreement is ODM’s approach to potential cooperation with President William Ruto and his ruling party, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA). 

One faction within ODM, reportedly aligned with Oburu Oginga, is said to favor dialogue and possible power-sharing arrangements with the government. They argue that strategic engagement could secure the party’s influence ahead of 2027.

However, another camp strongly opposes any formal alliance. Leaders such as James Orengo, Babu Owino, and Godfrey Osotsi have maintained that ODM should remain independent and prepare to field its own presidential candidate. They insist that the party’s identity and legacy must not be diluted through premature political compromises.

The standoff reflects broader uncertainty within ODM as it navigates leadership dynamics in a changing political landscape following the active frontline role of party leader Raila Odinga.

 While Olekina’s firm declaration was meant to project stability and loyalty, Alai’s sharp remarks have exposed the undercurrents of mistrust and internal rivalry.
