“We Are Undecided”: Major Setback for Ruto as Oburu Odinga Clarifies ODM Is Not Team Tutam

Political temperatures are steadily rising as the country edges closer to the 2027 General Election, with alliances forming and parties signaling possible shifts.

In the latest development, Siaya Senator Oburu Odinga has declared that the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) has not taken a position in support of President William Ruto, dealing a blow to speculation about a growing political alignment.

Speaking during a public meeting, Oburu firmly stated that ODM remains undecided regarding any partnership ahead of 2027. 

He dismissed claims suggesting that the party had joined the “Tutam” political slogan, which has been widely used by Ruto’s supporters to signal loyalty to his leadership and future bid.

According to Oburu, decisions concerning political alliances cannot be imposed externally or shaped by public chants and slogans. He emphasized that any formal position must originate from the party’s internal structures and constitutional organs. 

“We are undecided,” he said, stressing that ODM’s direction will be determined through proper consultation and democratic processes within the party.

His remarks appear to counter narratives that ODM is quietly drifting toward cooperation with the ruling administration. 

While acknowledging ongoing national conversations, Oburu made it clear that dialogue does not automatically translate into endorsement or political alignment.

The senator further explained that ODM continues to evaluate key national issues and its long-term strategy. He underscored the importance of unity built on policy agreement, shared values, and respect for party procedures. 

Any partnership, he noted, must reflect the will of members and serve the broader public interest rather than individual ambitions.

Political analysts view ODM as a pivotal force in shaping opposition politics, making its stance ahead of 2027 particularly significant. 

With shifting alliances and early campaign signals emerging across the political divide, the party’s final decision could greatly influence the electoral landscape.

Oburu also cautioned against rushing into premature deals, warning that such moves could create internal friction. 

For now, ODM maintains that it is reviewing its options carefully and will communicate its official position once consultations are complete.
