Oburu Odinga Pushes for Stronger ODM, Calls for Unity Ahead of Elections

Orange Democratic Movement acting leader Oburu Odinga is working hard to bring members of the party together.

He wants everyone to join hands and make the party strong so it can have more power and influence in the future.

Oburu spoke to party members at Sony Sugar Green Stadium in Awendo, Migori County, during the memorial service for former Prime Minister Raila Odinga.

He said the party must stay united to be respected and listened to by others.

He compared the party to a beautiful lady that everyone would want to approach, explaining that if the party is weak, no one will take it seriously or negotiate with it.

Oburu encouraged supporters to register both as party members and as voters, saying their support would make him confident to face any challenges.

He chose to hold the event in Migori, even though other areas had many important guests, because the people of Migori and Homa Bay loved Raila deeply and deserved a chance to mourn him properly.

He emphasized that these areas were close to Raila’s heart, almost like his personal space.

The event was attended by top ODM leaders and local officials, including Migori Governor Ochilo Ayacko.

ODM Chairperson Gladys Wanga, Kisumu Deputy Governor Matthews Owili, Migori Deputy Governor Gimunta Mahiri.

National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohammed, and several MPs from Homa Bay and Migori.

Leaders at the event promised to keep ODM strong and active as the 2027 General Election approaches.

They said it is important to continue the work and plans that Raila started, including the ten-point agenda that led to forming the broad-based government.

They urged party members to trust Oburu’s experience in politics and work together to achieve the party’s goals.

All leaders agreed that staying united and keeping the friendships and alliances Raila built is the best way forward.

They said that the support from current allies is already helping the party, and it is better to continue with known partners than to take unnecessary risks with new ones.
