“Our Support Is Not Free” — Junet Sends Strong Warning to Ruto Ahead of 2027

Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) leaders have declared that their support for President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election will strictly depend on clear, firm, and negotiated conditions — a move that signals early political maneuvering ahead of the high-stakes contest.

Speaking at a rally in Siaya County, National Assembly Minority Whip Junet Mohamed made it clear that ODM’s backing cannot be assumed or taken for granted.

He emphasized that the party commands a significant voter base and political influence that must be respected in any future alliance.

“Our support is not free,” Junet told supporters. “If anyone expects ODM votes, they must be ready to sit down, negotiate properly, and declare clearly what they are offering.”

Junet stated that any possible cooperation with the President’s camp must involve a structured and transparent agreement.

According to him, this would include a fair allocation of government positions and concrete development commitments directed toward ODM strongholds.

He stressed that the party would not enter into vague or informal arrangements that fail to protect its political interests.

“We cannot accept empty promises,” he said.

“There must be clarity on positions, on development, and on how our people will benefit.”

The remarks highlight the strategic positioning currently taking place within Kenya’s political scene.

Traditionally seen as a key opposition outfit, ODM is now signaling that it may be open to engagement — but only under terms that strengthen its bargaining power and deliver measurable benefits to its supporters.

Junet further hinted that ongoing discussions between government and opposition figures will heavily influence the party’s final decision.
