Police Foil Deadly Al-Shabaab Bomb Plot in Garissa After Dramatic Intelligence Operation
Kenya’s elite Special Operations Group (SOG) has successfully foiled a planned terror attack in Garissa County, averting what could have been a deadly assault.
The officers intercepted eight suspected Al-Shabaab militants who were preparing to detonate improvised explosive devices (IEDs) along the busy Welmerer-Yumbia route.
According to security reports, the militants were caught while assembling the explosives in a remote area near the Kenya-Somalia border.
The operation was launched after local residents alerted security agencies to suspicious movements in the region.
Upon receiving the tip-off, SOG officers swiftly moved in, surrounding the area before engaging the suspects in a brief exchange of gunfire.
Several of the assembled IEDs were safely recovered and neutralized by the bomb disposal unit.
Authorities confirmed that the devices had been strategically planted to target both civilians and security patrols using the road.
