Gachagua Alleges Secret Night Visits by Ruto Allies Amid Mt. Kenya Political Shifts

Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has sparked fresh political debate by claiming that some leaders close to President William Ruto have been making secret nighttime visits to him.

Speaking during a public address, Gachagua suggested that not everyone within the President’s inner circle is satisfied with the current political direction. 

According to him, several operatives and allies have been seeking confidential discussions, away from the public eye, reflecting unease and uncertainty within the ruling camp.

Although he did not identify specific individuals, Gachagua said the meetings indicate that some of Ruto’s allies feel sidelined and are exploring alternative political alliances as preparations for the 2027 General Election intensify. 

He framed the visits as a signal of shifting political dynamics in the Mt. Kenya region, traditionally considered a key support base.

The former Deputy President’s comments come amid reports of realignment among several MPs in the region. 

Some legislators have reportedly distanced themselves from Gachagua, pledging loyalty to Interior Cabinet Secretary Kithure Kindiki as their primary link to the President. 

Analysts suggest that these shifts may point to emerging fractures within the political coalition that was instrumental in securing victory in the 2022 elections.

Despite these changes, Gachagua has remained vocal, positioning himself as a significant player in the region’s political future. 

He continues to critique aspects of the current administration while seeking to consolidate support and explore new alliances.

Observers note that Gachagua’s claims could either reflect genuine dissent within the ruling party or be a strategic move to signal influence and maintain relevance in Mt. Kenya politics. 

In either case, his remarks have added intensity to ongoing debates about leadership, loyalty, and alignment within the region ahead of the 2027 electoral cycle.
