In a significant gesture that bridges political divides, a large delegation of leaders from the Rift Valley is set to visit the Bondo home of the late Raila Odinga today.
Led by Tinderet MP Julius Melly, who chairs the Kalenjin MPs caucus, over 60 Members of Parliament and elders will make the journey to pay their final respects.
The centrepiece of their tribute is the presentation of 80 bulls.
According to Hon. Melly, this number was chosen specifically to symbolise the 80 years of life that the late statesman was granted.
This powerful act of generosity is intended to support the family by providing food for the vast number of mourners who will gather for the final send-off.
The bulls are to be slaughtered in his honour during the burial.
This visit is being seen as a powerful statement of national unity, transcending the political rivalries that have often defined the relationship between leaders from the Rift Valley and Nyanza regions.
The act of donating livestock is a deeply ingrained cultural sign of respect and solidarity in Kenya, demonstrating that the leaders are mourning alongside the Odinga family and the nation.
Hon. Melly stated the donation signifies the "close friendship" shared with the late leader.
The arrival of the Rift Valley delegation in Bondo is one of the major events planned ahead of the final burial on Sunday.
It serves as a testament to Raila Odinga's stature as a leader whose influence reached far beyond his political strongholds, earning him respect from across the entire Kenyan landscape.
The gesture has been warmly received as a fitting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to the nation.
