FORMER DEPUTY PRESIDENT REJECTED IN MT.KENYA AS PROTESERS BLOCK ROADSWAYS

😶‍🌫️

Tension has gripped parts of Kirinyaga County after angry residents took to the streets to condemn former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua over remarks they claim demeaned Governor Anne Waiguru.

The protesters, carrying twigs and chanting pro-Waiguru slogans, blocked the busy Kutus–Samson Corner road, bringing traffic to a standstill for hours.

In a video shared by Timothy Kariuki on Facebook, the residents accused Gachagua of disrespecting women leaders and vowed to resist any attempt to undermine their county boss.

They warned the former DP against setting foot in Kirinyaga unless he offers a public apology and shows respect to local leadership.

The dramatic protest marks a new twist in the growing political tension between allies of Governor Waiguru and those still loyal to Gachagua within the Mt Kenya region.

Observers say this latest confrontation signals a widening rift among central Kenya leaders as the 2027 political realignments begin to take shape.

Residents interviewed during the protest claimed that Gachagua’s remarks were not just personal attacks but part of a broader plan to divide the region’s leadership.

They insisted that Kirinyaga will not allow outsiders to lecture them on who should lead or represent their interests at the national level.

Political analysts believe the protest could escalate into a full-blown war of words between Waiguru’s supporters .

Gachagua’s camp, further complicating efforts by President William Ruto’s allies to keep the Mt Kenya bloc united.

The growing fallout has also sparked debate online, with many Kenyans urging leaders to focus on development rather than trading insults.
Others viewed the protest as a clear message that Mt Kenya’s internal politics are far from settled.

As calm slowly returned to the area, locals maintained their stand, Gachagua must either retract his remarks or stay away from Kirinyaga altogether.
