SC Ahmednasir Abdullahi Backs Junet’s Claims, Says Uhuru’s Influence Is Fueling ODM Divisions

Senior Counsel Ahmednasir Abdullahi has weighed in on the ongoing political storm within the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), publicly supporting remarks made by National Assembly Minority Leader Junet Mohamed that former President Uhuru Kenyatta is contributing to divisions within the party.

Ahmednasir, a vocal commentator on X (formerly Twitter), endorsed Junet’s sentiments, arguing that Uhuru’s continued political presence is a destabilizing factor in ODM’s internal affairs. His reaction has amplified an already heated debate over the party’s direction in the post-Raila Odinga era.

Junet has repeatedly claimed that Uhuru — not President William Ruto — is the central figure behind ODM’s internal wrangles.

According to Junet, efforts to push ODM leaders away from the current broad-based government arrangement and toward a united opposition front are being influenced by the former Head of State.

The accusations have surfaced amid persistent tension within ODM, including disputes over strategy, leadership transition, and unresolved matters from the 2022 General Election.

Junet previously linked Uhuru and his brother, Muhoho Kenyatta, to controversies surrounding agent payments from that election cycle — claims that have further deepened political fault lines.

Speaking during public forums, including events in his Suna East constituency and consultative meetings such as the “Linda Ground” gathering in Lamu, Junet described Uhuru as the “big fish” allegedly working behind the scenes to reorganize opposition forces against Ruto’s administration.

However, Uhuru has strongly dismissed the allegations, maintaining that he respects ODM’s autonomy and has no intention of interfering in its internal matters.

Allies within ODM, including Secretary General Edwin Sifuna, have at times distanced the party from Junet’s remarks, emphasizing unity and cautioning against blame games.

Ahmednasir’s endorsement of Junet’s claims reinforces his long-standing criticism of Uhuru’s lingering political influence. His intervention has added fresh momentum to the debate, placing ODM’s internal dynamics under sharper public scrutiny.
