Supporters Flood Bungoma Streets in Show of Solidarity with Edwin Sifuna

Hundreds of residents in Bungoma took to the streets to demonstrate their support for Edwin Sifuna, the Secretary-General of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM), amid recent political controversies surrounding his role within the party.

The peaceful demonstration drew large crowds from different parts of the county, with participants waving banners and holding placards bearing messages of solidarity.

Many of the slogans praised Sifuna’s leadership and condemned what supporters described as unfair criticism and political attacks directed at him in recent days.

Organizers of the march said the gathering was meant to reaffirm unity within the community and send a clear message that Sifuna continues to enjoy strong grassroots backing.

They described him as a vocal and principled leader who has consistently defended party ideals and championed national issues.

Although Sifuna was not physically present at the event, he acknowledged the demonstration through a message shared on social media.

In his statement, he expressed gratitude to the residents for standing by him and commended them for conducting themselves peacefully. He urged his supporters to remain calm and continue promoting democratic engagement.

Community elders and local leaders who addressed the crowd emphasized the importance of maintaining peace throughout the protest.

They encouraged participants to avoid provocation and ensure that their actions reflected discipline and respect for the rule of law.

Police officers were deployed across key streets in Bungoma town to monitor the situation and ensure that the demonstration remained orderly.

Authorities confirmed that the gathering proceeded without major incidents, and traffic flow in the town was largely unaffected.

Local businesses continued operating as usual, with traders observing the march from their premises. Students and young people who joined the protest were advised to express their views responsibly and uphold civic values.

The demonstration is widely seen as a swift response to recent political debates within ODM, where divisions over party direction and leadership have sparked intense public discussion.
