“Sifuna, Tunakuhitaji” – ODM Figure Changes Tune, Appeals for Unity Amid Internal Speculations

A senior Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) official has publicly urged Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna to stay firmly within the party and continue supporting its leadership, in a move seen as an attempt to calm growing speculation over internal divisions.

Speaking to a gathering of party supporters, Oketch Salah described Sifuna as a pivotal member whose voice and presence remain critical to ODM’s direction. 

“Sifuna, tunakuhitaji,” Salah told the audience, emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in unity and collective focus rather than public disagreements.

Salah highlighted that ODM has historically drawn its influence from cohesion and mutual respect, arguing that disagreements should be resolved through internal dialogue rather than airing them in public. 

He added that Sifuna’s role in articulating the concerns of urban voters, particularly youth, has been invaluable and should continue to guide the party’s strategies.

According to Salah, supporting ODM party leader Oburu Odinga is essential for preserving stability as the party positions itself for upcoming political contests. 

“Backing our leadership is not just loyalty; it is about ensuring the party remains strong, organized, and ready for the challenges ahead,” he said.

The remarks come amid increasing public attention on ODM’s internal deliberations, which some analysts say could influence the party’s readiness for future elections. 

While calls for reforms and stronger accountability have surfaced from certain quarters, party elders, including Salah, have urged members to prioritize cohesion and restraint.

Supporters at the event responded enthusiastically, applauding Salah’s call for dialogue, consultation, and reconciliation. 

The ODM official reiterated that the party remains a broad and inclusive movement that accommodates diverse views while maintaining loyalty to its collective direction.

Political observers note that such appeals are often timed to prevent high-profile departures or public disputes that could weaken a party’s credibility ahead of national elections. 

Salah’s message underscores ODM’s continued focus on keeping its leadership united and its members engaged, especially in urban strongholds where political dynamics are highly competitive.

He concluded by emphasizing that the party’s strength lies in standing together and resolving differences internally. 

“Our supporters across the country expect us to lead by example,” Salah said, urging members to put collective interests above personal ambitions and maintain the party’s unity.
