ODM leader Raila Odinga's death on Wednesday, October 15, has complicated President William Ruto's political plans by forcing him to reassess his strategy ahead of the 2027 General Election.

Raila's untimely death derailed the president's plans for a coalition with ODM.

According to the publication, the president is considering reviewing the memorandum of understanding he has with the late Raila's party

To persuade the ODM leaders to formally establish their working relationship to ensure his survival.
Collapsing the ruling party to formally join the ODM party is one of the options on the table.

Alternatively, he might dissolve the UDA and ODM parties and create a new party in which he would serve as both the flagbearer and the party leader.

Another option is to use his power to drive out ODM rebels and install supporters as his pointmen, particularly in Luo Nyanza, and to establish other regional parties in Raila's strongholds.

"In these regions, Ruto only required Raila’s word to inherit his support base, but after his death, he needs local leaders elected from ODM who will act as his entry point,"

KANU chairman Gideon Moi is set to be handed a Cabinet slot following his political deal with President Ruto.

Ruto is expected to reshuffle his Cabinet following the deal, also necessitated by Raila's death.

Ruto's deal with Gideon was sealed following a series of meetings that saw the KANU chairman drop out of the Baringo senatorial race.

Gideon is eyeing the Roads and Transport Ministry, currently held by Davis Chirchir.

His allies, including former Baringo woman representative Gladwell Tungo, will land plum government jobs.
